Using Hypnotherapy to Retrain the Brain and Resolve Trauma

Donald Currie talks about the benefits of hypnosis and digging deep into ones self-conscious. Watch the video or read the transcript below.

The mind can be compared to an iceberg. The tip of the iceberg is the conscious mind, it’s the part of the mind that we can see and the subconscious mind is like the part of the iceberg that resides below the surface, it’s the part of the mind that we cannot see.

Hypnotherapy is a tool that allows us to move beyond the conscious mind and to start to work with the subconscious mind.

“Hypnotherapy is a tool that allows us to move beyond the conscious mind and to start to work with the subconscious mind.”

Our subconscious mind contains all of our feelings, all of our thought processes, all of our belief systems, all of our habits, and behaviours. As organisms, we’re always working to move away from pain and when we have a trauma in our childhood, what happens is the subconscious mind encases that memory and places it in the back on a shelf so we don’t have to deal with it.

What happens is that a lot of people in the now start to find coping strategies that will enable them to feel better and for a lot of people, that turns into an addiction.

“What happens is that a lot of people in the now start to find coping strategies that will enable them to feel better and for a lot of people, that turns into an addiction.”

When we’re working with hypnosis, it allows us to access those memories and those feelings that people have placed on the shelf and dust those off and take them out to start looking at and being aware of what resides below the surface. Then we can start to look at those things in a new way. When we experience something as a child, we experience it, say at 5 years old, with that consciousness of when we were 5 years old. That memory never evolves and it never grows. So as an adult when you start to do this work, you can start to look at those memories in a new way and infuse your knowledge and wisdom that you have available to you as an adult into those memories from when you were a child.

At Helix Healthcare Group, we integrate psychotherapy with hypnotherapy as well as other mind body practices and the marriage of all of these techniques together is extremely powerful, enabling people to move through things far more rapidly than if they’re just doing an individual therapy on its own.
