Frequently Asked Questions

Is my information secure and protected?
  • Video consultations are encrypted and the content of the video is never recorded or stored anywhere.
  • Minimal personal information is required to use the system. This data is completely private between providers and their patients or clients.
  • Helix eTherapy uses OnCall Health, which complies with the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA), The Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and all equivalent personal health information protection legislation in Canada.
  • OnCall Health servers are privately hosted and located in Canada, with the Amazon secure cloud.
  • Providers have the option to collect and process payments through the platform via PCI-compliant Stripe or through our in-clinic payment processing system.
  • All personal information is deleted when it is no longer necessary to deliver the service, or immediately when a user closes their account.
  • The technology is regularly audited by a third party to ensure privacy obligations are always being met.
  • We do not sell or trade your information, and we protect your privacy, confidentiality, and your rights with respect to Canada’s privacy laws.
Why is this better than using Skype with my therapist?
  • Skype® is not approved to be used for health-related purposes. The Canadian Colleges of Social Workers and Psychologists mandate their members to follow Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA) for their clients’ information. PHIPA calls for a certain level of encryption and a set of procedures for technology services in healthcare applications. OnCall Health is in compliance with PHIPA.
  • OnCall Health video conferencing platform has AES 256-bit encryption based on Health-Care & PHIPA requirements for secure, strong encryption.
How do I register?

As a first step, we offer an initial phone consultation with a member of the Helix clinical team. It’s an opportunity for them to find out more about your current circumstance, schedule and preferences. We will then recommend an e-therapist or team of e-therapists to support you in your journey. Registration takes just a few minutes so that we can gather your contact and billing information, set you up in our system and book your first appointment. You will then receive a confirmation email with all the details to ensure that you are ready for your first e-therapy session. As always, we are here if you should have any questions or need further assistance.

Is Online Therapy covered under my insurance plan?

At the end of each session you will receive an emailed receipt with your name, your therapist’s name and license number, the e-therapy provides, the date of the session, and the amount paid. As each insurance company is different, we recommend that you check with your individual health plan to determine if you have coverage for your online practitioner(s).

Is Online Therapy suitable for me?

Online therapy is not suitable for you if you currently suffer from severe symptoms of a complex mental illness. Online therapists can offer advice and guidance to those experiencing challenges in relationships, work and life, however they cannot provide diagnosis or treatment of complex mental illness(es). Due to the limitations of online therapy, we are not able to promptly respond to crises such as suicide risks, child protection crisis, domestic violence, or assault.  If you are having suicidal thoughts or are at risk of harming yourself or others, please go to your local hospital emergency department immediately.

What are the price of sessions

The e-sessions for our therapists range from $100+hst for our Student Therapists to $185+hst for our Registered Psychotherapists. Individual online wellness sessions (such as e-yoga) are $135+hst per session, while online process groups are $50+hst per class. All sessions are 50 minutes in length. Please note that prices are subject to change.

How am I billed?

Upon registration, we will request your credit card information, which is safely and securely stored on file for future sessions. You will be billed at the end of each session via our in-clinic payment processing system, and will receive an detailed invoice each time.

If you have paid for a package in our clinic and would like to use a credit, the session will be deducted from your package and not billed individually through our eTherapy platform, unless otherwise specified.

Please note that 24 hours notice is required for any cancellations or schedule changes or else the full session fee will be billed.
