Welcome to Helix Healthcare Group

At the Helix Healthcare Group, we believe that true healing must encompass both the mind and the body to achieve long-term results. With the right environment, an effective set of tools, and a holistic support system, clients can not only recover, but also achieve lasting wellness. Standard medical models concerning mental health and addiction issues are often limited and restricted. On the other side of the spectrum, holistic and natural treatments may not address all the underlying issues. Helix Healthcare brings together the best of both worlds.

Our treatment programs introduce clinically-proven and time-tested interventions into the Canadian landscape. Our partners founded Helix Healthcare after advancing a treatment model that helped them prevail over their own addictions. It grew out of a vision to create an integrated approach that has rarely been available in Canada – until today.

At Helix Healthcare Group, your wellness is not only our mandate it's our passion.

Types of addictions we treat:

  • Substance Abuse: Alcohol and Illegal Drugs

Substance abuse is the overindulgence and dependence on an addictive substance, especially alcohol or a narcotic drug. A person who is partaking in destructive, maladaptive behaviours that involve the use and/or dependency on a substance often suffers from underlying relationship, attachment, existence, or life-direction issues that predicate the substance abuse pattern.

  • Substance Abuse: Prescription Drugs

Canada is the second-largest consumer of prescription opioids in the world, lending itself to a drug misuse crisis. At Helix Healthcare Group, we address this growing area of concern using a comprehensive approach.

  • Sexual Addiction

Sexual addiction is a progressive intimacy disorder characterized by compulsive sexual thoughts and acts. Like all addictions, its negative impact on the individual and their family members increase as the disorder progresses. Over time, the sufferer becomes desensitized and feels compelled to intensify their sexual behaviours in order to achieve the same results. Often it is not about sex, but issues around intimacy and connection.

  • Relationship / Love Addiction (co-dependency)

Love addiction is when a person needs to put his or her own time, effort, and energy into someone else in order to feel alive. People suffering from love addiction often value their beloved above themselves, and their focus on the recipient of their love may even become obsessive. Love addiction doesn’t necessarily pertain only to romantic or sexual relationships. It is possible for a person to fall into love addiction with their friends, children, sponsor, guru or religious figure, or even with a movie star, whom they have never met.

  • Shopping Addiction

In this day and age, it is virtually impossible to exist without thinking about, wanting, and acquiring material possessions. The determining factor that denotes when a person who is living in a material world becomes a person who has a material addiction, can be found when the acquisition of material goods becomes disruptive to one’s life and is treated as more important than human relationships.

  • Gambling

Gambling addiction, also known as compulsive gambling, is a type of impulse-control disorder. Compulsive gamblers can’t control the impulse to gamble, even when they know their gambling is hurting themselves and their loved ones. Gambling is all the addiction sufferer can think about, no matter the consequences. Compulsive gamblers keep gambling whether they’re up or down, broke or flush, happy or depressed. Even when they know the odds are against them, even when they can’t afford to lose.

  • Eating Disorders (non-critical)

Eating disorders are conditions defined by abnormal eating habits that may involve either insufficient or excessive food intake to the detriment of an individual’s physical and mental health. A person will often find themselves struggling with their relationship with food due to social issues and problems with the concept of taking in nourishment or love.

  • Work Addiction

Work addiction takes on many forms. Among them, deriving our identify and self-esteem from what we do. At Helix Healthcare Group, we address the underlying issues so you can truly achieve work-life balance.

Types of mental health areas we treat:

  • Anxiety

Anxiety is an uncomfortable sensation of inner turmoil that can be accompanied by feelings of nervousness, apprehension, fear and dread. For many it can be debilitating and even lead to additional stress-related health issues. At Helix, we recognize the wide range of anxiety-related disorders and use integrative treatment techniques to address triggers, balance the nervous system response and reduce psychological stress.

  • Depression

Mood disorders are a group of affective disturbances that include major depressive, bipolar and substance-induced disorders. Such disorders can lead to profound emotional dysregulation and psychological upheaval, which can make it difficult to function at home and in the work place.

  • Trauma

According to Dr. Gabor Maté, “not all addictions are rooted in abuse or trauma, but [they] can all be traced to painful experience. A hurt is at the centre of all addictive behaviours. It is present in the gambler, the Internet addict, the compulsive shopper and the workaholic.” At Helix Healthcare we specialize in trauma resolution, and address the underlying causes of addiction and mental health issues.

  • Mood Disorders

Mood disorders are a group of affective disturbances that include major depressive, bipolar and substance-induced disorders. Such disorders can lead to profound emotional dysregulation and psychological upheaval, which can make it difficult to function at home and in the work place.

  • Loss of Purpose

At Helix Healthcare Group, we recognize that a sense of purpose is integral to ones sense of fulfilment and life satisfaction. Modern life, with its emphasis on prestige and material wealth, is not always conducive to psychological and emotional prosperity. Using mindfulness techniques and a host of wellness therapies, it is our goal to nurture our clients’ self-awareness and uncover hidden passions in order to cultivate a more inspired, gratifying life.

  • Personality Disorders

Personality encompasses ones unique, enduring patterns of mental and behavioural traits. These patterns typically develop from early life experiences and produce a type of template against which we organize our interaction with the world. Personality disorders are the result of maladaptive patterns and can lead to difficulties with emotional regulation, impulse control, cognitive function and interpersonal relationships.

  • Body Dysmorphia

Body dysmorphia describes a preoccupation with a perceived defect in one’s physical appearance. People dealing with body dysmorphia are commonly bombarded with pervasive and often obsessive negative thoughts about their looks, which can lead to immense psychological distress and impaired functioning.

  • Family Challenges

Romantic partnerships, friendships and family relationships all serve one of our most basic human needs – social interaction. When these relationships are functioning optimally, they confer a sense of psychological support, emotional validation and personal fulfillment. The opposite is true when our primary relationships are functioning poorly, creating a sense of distress as we struggle with one of our fundamental needs not being met.
